Strategic Road Inaugurated by General Kiani

Rawalpindi - April 14, 2011:  Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited Ghulam Khan in North Waziristan Agency and Peshawar today. He inaugurated road Bannu – Mir Ali – Miran Shah - Ghulam Khan being constructed as part of Quick Impact Projects, undertaken by Pakistan Army for social development of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas. Frontier Works Organization will complete the road in one and half years, linking remote areas of North Waziristan Agency to other parts of the country. With a total length of 80 Kilometers, costing Rupees 4 Billion, the project will also provide employment opportunities to approximately 2000 locals. The road will provide central trade route between Pakistan and Afghanistan. This will open multiple opportunities for people of North Waziristan Agency.  While addressing the tribal elders, COAS appreciated their support and acknowledged their sacrifices in war against terrorism. He reiterated Army’s resolve to bring peace and stability to the affected areas and to protect the lives and property of the tribals, against all internal as well as external threats. At Peshawar, COAS was briefed about the ongoing stability operations. He also met with Chief Minister Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa Province, Mr Ameer Haider Khan Hotti and discussed security situation in the province. The COAS also presided over the ceremony of handing over of consolidated account of Army’s efforts in the flood relief operations in the province.
